Rob Kornweiss

Sound Engineer

My path to engineering started with a Sony Discman (D-242CK) and a pair of headphones. Growing up, I was rarely without my CD player, obsessed with records across a variety of genres (Pop, Rock, R&B, Rap, Cinematic, Jock Jams, you name it). Years of piano playing led me to the Clavinova, which sparked my interest in composing and inspired years of late-night production sessions. After earning a Professional Certificate from Berklee College of Music, I found my way into the NYC studio scene. I now work as a freelance engineer, often at Precision Sound Studios, but also at clients’ preferred sites and in my home studio.

My approach to audio is centered on capturing the feeling of being in the room with the performer. I prefer a clean, honest sound that honors the moment the art was made and highlights the organic energy that inspired the creation in the first place.

I’ve had the opportunity to develop this approach while assisting on sessions for incredible musicians, including Ron Carter, Oz Noy, Erika Dohi, Liz Callaway, Rich Mercurio, Conrad Korsch, and Clifford Carter.

My focus on clarity carries over into my work in post-production for films, documentaries, audiobooks, and ad spots. I’ve been trusted to record talent such as Billie Jean King, Andrew Ross Sorkin, and Ms. Rachel and have assisted recordings of Jerry Seinfeld and Anne Hathaway.

If you have a project in the works, feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear what you’re building.
